After much discussion it has been agreed to change the name of the group to Sustainable Wantage. The group are concerned about the effects of climate change within the Wantage area and beyond. By working together we hope to increase awareness of the issue and reduce carbon-producing activity in the local area.

Current Focus

We are frequently to be seen at local events behind our informative stalls - you may have seen us in our previous guise of "The Wantage and Grove Green People". Since our inception in 2006 we have organised a number of successful events and campaigns. Our current focus is on domestic energy usage and ways to reduce it. Solar PV discount Scheme

Sustainable Wantage has launched a solar PV discount scheme for residents and businesses in the Wantage/OX12 area.  After going out to tender in December 2010 for local PV installers and they selected Oxford-based EnergyMyWay so by sharing the marketing costs with Sustainable Wantage and from having a cluster of users in the same area, the company is able to offer discounts of up to 15%.

The Solar Wantage scheme was formally launched on 3rd March at a public meeting in Wantage Civic Hall, attended by 90 people.  The scheme has already got off to a rapid start - over 25 surveys booked and 2 sales within a week of the launch.  Sustainable Wantage's role has simply been to initiate the scheme - the commercial relationship is entirely between EnergyMyWay and each customer.  However Sustainable Wantage plans to collect monitoring information from participants on a voluntary basis in order to compare actual energy production with the original expectation and to calculate the total energy savings achieved by the scheme.  For more information please go to www.sustainablewantage.org.uk.
