Around 80 people attended the first open meeting of Low Carbon South Oxford, held on Thursday, 31st March 2011. Helen Graham, project officer for the group said, "The main aims for the evening were to introduce the newly-forming community group, and to inspire and listen to ideas from the local community on how we could help each-other reduce our carbon footprint."
There was a real sense of excitement amongst the local residents and other interested parties, and expectation about what can be achieved. Low Carbon South Oxford is now constituted as a CAG, and is settingup a number of sub-groups to steer future activities, focusing on different topics according to where the most interest lies. Activities to go forward are on Greener Homes, Sustainable Food, Sustainable Transport (and the Hogacre Common site - in conjunction with Low Carbon West Oxford).
The aim of the group is to: "To help South Oxford Residents, groups and organisations work together to reduce their carbon footprint; to raise awareness of environmental issues within South Oxford; and move towards a more environmentally sustainable ways of living and working."
The intention is that the sub-groups will probably meet about once a month, the frequency, venue and so on to be agreed by each group. If you would like to be part of any of these sub-groups, or to coordinate any of them, please email as soon as you can. We hope to set a date for the first meeting for each group within the next couple of weeks.
See the CAG events for future events. OxGrow hold regular work parties at Hogacre Common every Sunday (1.00 - 4.00). The link to their website is http://oxgrow.org/finding-oxgrow/.
