Dean Court CAG

Dean Court is a ward in the Oxfordshire Parish of Cumnor (though most people think we are part of Botley!) Like the rest of the CAG network, our mission in Dean Court is to minimise waste and maximise the quality of life in our community.

We are part of working groups involved in getting a derelict social club building refurbished as a Community Centre for Dean Court and beyond, hopefully with fantastic eco-build credentials; and in getting a footpath / cycle track constructed between Dean Court and Farmoor, and eventually out as far as Eynsham, where it will join up with the Sustrans A40 route. We hold several litter picks a year and are looking forward to re-starting our monthly Swap Shop once we have the community centre up and running.

Meetings are informal and fun – the business part seldom lasting more than an hour and usually accompanied by a glass of wine and good conversation. Anyone is welcome to turn up. There's no subscription and no pressure to do anything you don't want (or don't have time) to do. It's a good way of meeting kindred spirits who are keen to make life better by using fewer of the Earth's diminishing resources.

Our most recent event was our take on the Big Lunch:  the Dean Court Modest Picnic

We hope before long to get activities like bike-repair workshops organised at our new community centre.  These, together with the new cycle track to Farmoor and beyond, could mean that local kids will be able to get to Hill End - supposedly Oxfordshire's flagship eco-centre - without being driven by mum or dad.

Royal Wedding Day BBQ and Fun Day on Pinnocks Green, followed by Cream Teas at St Andrews

Thanks to everyone who leafleted, barbecued, baked, bannered and otherwise helped to make this fantastic occasion such a success.  We don’t yet have the final tally, but it was the most astounding success in terms of attendance.  St Andrews were amazing: they catered for 60 people and yet when about 120 turned up, they were completely unfazed, just put more tables outside and presumably the traditional loaves and fishes came into play, because as far as we know, no-one went without being fed!  St Andrews have suggested that they simply donate the proceeds from the Cream Teas to the Community Centre, but we did advertise it as being in aid of both the Community Centre and the Multi-use games area (MUGA) so we’ll have to talk about that further. Big Lunch Celebration

We had our first Big Lunch on 19th July 2009 and despite the weather - it was nearly a wash out - we still had a few who enjoyed the day. 2010's Big Lunch was on Sunday, 18th July. IT wase in the new play park, which will allow for lots of fun activities as well as highlight the value of having a community building at hand. Dlicious home-made and home grown goodies were on offer. Again in 2011 people from Dean Court area met up for a picnic lunch.
