More news from Community access to local food in and around Oxford – a sustainable local food project forming part of the Low Carbon Oxford programme.
With support from CAG Oxfordshire and Oxford City Council, OxFood aims to provide a hub of information, ideas and contacts for all those people and organisations engaging in local food issues in our region. The aim is for you to be able to connect with similar people and projects via the searchable database, or see what is going on near you on the growing local food map. A second meeting is due to take place on 24th May at the Folly Bridge Inn, for more details go to: http://www.oxfood.co.uk/2011/05/csa_meeting_240511/
Dan Betterton has volunteered his time to run this local food project, OxFood. Dan is mapping all the local food activity in the region to compile it in one place. At the heart of the project is a recognition that community groups are doing some of the best, most accessible work, and hold much of the local food knowledge and expertise. It would be really fantastic if you could share any details with Dan about what your community group is doing so they can be added to the database. Dan will be able to share contacts and ideas from other groups will similar projects which we hope you will find useful.
Also, an important part of the project is to ask questions such as: What isn't working well at the moment? What does our community need to take local food projects to the next stage? What does our community really want local food systems to look like? So when sharing your current practice, Dan would also be delighted to hear your more general thoughts and requirements with a view to spotting trends, and with the ultimate goal of working together to meet these demands.
OxFood strongly believe that affordable local food should be accessible to everyone in our community and that the best way of achieving that is for us all to share our knowledge and ideas. OxFood therefore hopes to encourage discussion on the most important questions surrounding local food in the 21st Century. You’ll find comments on the latest relevant news and you can add your voice via the forum.
If you would like any more information on the project, or would like to add your details or comments to the forum, please visit www.oxfood.co.uk or contact Dan Betterton
