Community Action Groups - CAG Oxfordshire
Canalside Environment Group

The Canalside Environment Group in North Oxford was formed in November 2005. It was originally planned as a Waterways Estate Environment Group but there was such interest from Aristotle Lane and Waterside estates that it was decided to expand and, as all these estates lie along the canal, the name Canalside Environment Group was agreed!

The group has regular swap shops, joined the Oxford Clean event in March 2008 as well has organising Christmas Tree shredding and garden event.

Group Aims

The Canalside Environment aims to promote sustainable lifestyles in the local area and help develop the sense of community on these new estates.

Past events

Litter pick and composting workshop: a group of volunteers from both the Waterways and Waterside developments walked around the local area picking up litter - enough to fill ten bin bags! Although the wind and rain in the morning made the task quite tricky, it was a satisfying feeling seeing what a difference it makes to the landscape when you remove crisp packets and coke cans! The rubbish was sorted for recycling before being taken away by the City Council. There was also quite a lot of interest in the council composter offer. Only £6 and they will deliver free! Fay Dashper gave advice to residents on how we can reduce household waste in this way while at the same time providing extra nourishment for our plants.
