Didcot Ladygrove - War on Waste

Didcot ladygrove declared 'War on Waste' and launched their CAG in style with a joint SwapShop and 'junk art' workshop.

The Didcot ladygrove swapshop took place in their local community centre. Local residents bought fantastic items along - some things had never even been used before!

Over 140 people attended the event, items were swopped and avoided being put in the bin and sent to landfill.

The group also collected 6 tins of paint that were passed on to the 'repaint' scheme run by Orinoco and 5 kgs of batteries to be recycled at Redbridge Waste Recycling Centre.

'Junk' art workshop

The art workshop run by Jane Carey of Re-create was a great success with a snake being made from old CDs, plastic bottles and crisp packets. An angel arose from the rubbish with a head full of corks and hair made from film tape!

Both the snake and the angel took pride of place in the Didcot Street parade at Christmas, promoting the work of the group and the creative potential of what we throw away.

Congratulations to the group as their walking procession won first prize!
