South of the County in the Vale of White Horse, Faringdon officially joined the CAG network at the Network event on the 20th May 2006 following organising their first swap shop as part of the county wide swap shop event. Faringdon Eco-week Group members were also very involved in a number of activities during ecoweek. During the week there were high profile ECOTALKS with celebrity speakers. To round off the week on Saturday 21st, (the Summer Solstice), the ECOBIKES set off around the ECOFARMS and to end up at Westmill Wind Farm Open Day. Despite the weather, which was cold, windy and wet, there were about 1000 people who came to the windfarm's first public open day; enjoying the stalls, organic burgers, tractor rides and other entertainment. With 345 people taking part, all holding hands to make the shape of the hub, the three blades and perimeter circle a new world record was set for the first turbine hugging record! In order to continue a lively set of activities, they need more volunteers. Could you help?If you would like to know more about the work of the group or would like to get involved, please get in touch! |
