CHALGROVE VOLUNTEER GROUP
Community gardening, Nature recovery, Trees, Water quality
Welcome to the Chalgrove Volunteer Group (CVG). The CVG was formed to bring together some of the key volunteer groups within the village under one umbrella, so that we can share our resources, and maximise our impact.
The member groups are:
Chalgrove Wildlife & Conservation Society (CWaCS) – a group dedicated to looking after the wellbeing of all things natural. We are involved in activities as varied as putting up owl/bird/bat boxes; planting spring bulbs; maintaining our “fruitful hedge”; carrying out riverfly monitoring; clearing badly overgrown areas, and all things wildlife and conservation!
Cleaner Chalgrove (CC) – a group dedicated to keeping our village tidy. We organise regular litter-picks, as well as providing emergency dog-poo bag dispensers to help dog owners keep our streets clear.
Chalgrove Flood Alleviation Group (CFAG) – a group that keeps a careful watch on the Chalgrove Brook to ensure that fallen trees and other blockages are removed; the banks are kept in good condition; overgrowth is kept under control, and drainage systems are maintained. We also keep an eye on the water quality, regularly testing for phosphates and nitrates, and pollution incidents, and support the work of the
River Thame Conservation Trust.
Chalgrove Communicating (CComm) – a small group who ensure that all new residents to the village are given a welcome pack to introduce them to the area, and maintaining a village website to keep everyone up to date.
We also have a number of smaller groups who help maintain public spaces, including the War Memorial Green, and we are responsible for the village Christmas Tree.
