Carbon Reduction, Community, Waste

Oxford Poetry Library aims to bring poetry to the local community by creating spaces for Oxfordshire residents to access and talk about poetry, discover new writing, and be platformed as local writers. Its primary aims as an organization are to increase access to poetry for a growing community of readers and educate the public in the arts, to promote previously marginalized or less-read texts and voices, to promote and encourage discussion and community cohesion through poetry. The library supports a thriving poetry community in Oxford, independently from the university or commercialized spaces. Being a pedal-powered resource based on a cargo-bike, it is a carbon-neutral venture which also aims to reduce wastage inherent in the individual ownership of books. By encouraging the sharing, borrowing, and donating of books, and keeping them circulated amongst a wide community of people, the library supports a sustainable way to engage with and access literature.
