Role summary
This role’s main purpose is to coordinate and support the development of a women-led
community allotment run by Oxfordshire African Caribbean Multicultural Association (OACMA).
After a successful pilot project of workshops dedicated to design the community plot together, the group is now working to establish it for long-term cultivation, focusing on celebrating African Caribbean crops and gardening traditions, whilst being open to everyone in the community.
The role will involve working collaboratively with OACMA members to refine the site design, carry out crop planning, source and install plot infrastructure, and source seeds and equipment. The post-holder will facilitate weekly gardening sessions on site (currently on Thursday afternoons), and carry out key practical tasks to help the garden thrive. A crucial early stage of the project is overseeing the construction of raised beds for more accessible gardening, which may involve sourcing and transporting the material for the beds, sourcing the labour to construct them, and overseeing the process.
