We are thrilled to share the latest annual report from the Community Action Groups Network in Oxfordshire.

Every year, we collect data from the network on the events and activities they have run, the volunteers, the number of people who attended or engaged, and the impact that this has had.
It never fails to amaze us how every year more is done and more is achieved. We love sharing how the collective effort and enthusiasm have such a big impact on our communities, both locally and globally.
Over the past year, groups in the CAG network hosted over 8,000 events and activities promoting sustainability and bringing people together to take action. These events attracted over 120,000 attendees, that’s as many people as can pack out the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury.
These activities resulted in, 1,616 tonnes of non-food waste being diverted (including 1,597 tonnes of wood via Oxford Wood Recycling alone) and 380 tonnes of food diverted from waste to be redistributed, cooked, eaten or processed, preventing 950 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
One standout example is the thriving repair café movement. Thirty volunteer-led groups ran 350 events this year alone — double the number hosted in 2021. These welcoming events empower people to “fix not bin” their broken household items, reducing waste, extending the life of everyday objects, and building local skills and community spirit.

Katherine Chesson, Director of CAG Oxfordshire says:
“Credit goes to the incredible community groups across Oxfordshire who are leading the way in building this movement and working so hard to improve local lives and protect our environment. At CAG Oxfordshire, we’re proud to support their efforts and celebrate the impact they make everyday. We are grateful to Oxfordshire County Council for the funding and backing that makes this possible.”
Councillor Judy Roberts, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Place, Environment and Climate Action, said: “The work of the county’s community action groups continues to inspire, and justifies the council’s financial investment in them several times over.
“Just as we put climate action at the heart of everything we do, so do the CAGs, who continue to grow in number. Long may they thrive and carry on the valuable work they are doing.”
